Trial balance

A checklist before you upload a trial balance

Most financial analysis errors start in the file itself: a missing account, the wrong period, or mismatched names.

Quick answer

Uploading a trial balance looks like a simple step, but it decides the quality of everything that follows. If the file arrives broken, the statements are built on a weak base.

Before you upload, check three things: debits equal credits, the period is correct and closed, and account names match the company's chart of accounts.

Then review duplicates, empty values, and accounts that appeared this month for the first time. These are not small details. They cause most month-over-month gaps.

VCFO does not hide those problems. It shows a status: valid, warning, review required, or failed. The goal is to know where the issue is before you decide on an incomplete number.

The best operating habit is simple: upload the file, resolve warnings the same day, then lock the period. Do not leave review for next week, when leadership is already waiting for the report.
